Ovations Nominations

I have posted about the Ovation Awards in the past. They are awards held for musicals in the Lower Mainland over the year. I got nominated for Best Supporting Female, for Into the Woods.
And my hubby got nominated for Best Musical Director, for Hairspray. Hairspray got a bunch of other nominations, including a special mention for the band!
The Awards will take place on Jan. 31, I'm sure it will be a fun night!

And oh, this year I am on the Ovation Jury, which means I go and see musicals all year long. Then I get to nominate and vote on what I feel are the most outstanding elements. So be prepared to hear about all the musicals I see, all year long!

TUTS Gala 2015

Last weekend was the TUTS fall gala. I helped with the auction throughout the night, it was a lot of fun! Their theme this year was "plant your roots with TUTS." They had a local artist make these beautiful centrepieces.
Here is my cute hubs, modelling the crocheted bunny and blanket set I made for the event.
Here is Cecilia, performing with some of the CAP University theatre kids.
And some more entertainment.
And the lovely hosts, Tracy Turnblad and Corny Collins!
And look who else was there - my little friend Scotia!
It was a really fun night, I was happy to pitch in and help out. See ya next year, TUTS!

Scotia!

Remember Scotia, my dressing room buddy? Well she left me this adorable stuffy as a closing night gift!
After all our back and forth via presents and notes, I finally got to meet her. Here she is, adorable huh!!
And this is my last post about Hairspray, which closed 2 weeks ago, I promise! Well, my last post for a little while…!

Secret Friend for Me

I already told you about my secret friend Koh, now here's some more stuff from my own secret friend. It was Cecily, the gal who played our Motormouth Maybel.
The best was that she wrapped everything up to look like Dynamite, since that's the character I played in the show.
Treats! Healthy ones, too!
Club Soda, another one of my favourite things! I have simple tastes!
And look at the stash she gave me on the last day!
Yarn! Yarn yarn yarn! Did you know I love yarn? (See name of blog, hehe!)
And also, TEA! Some yummy flavours! I LOVE my secret friend!

My Secret Friend - Koh

I still have some crafting things to show you leftover from Hairspray. My secret friend was Koh! She said her favourite colour was mint green and her favourite animal was a cat. So, here's Minty!
And I also made her some photo blocks with pictures from her summer. She worked on both Hairspray and Oliver.
And here's me and Koh!

Crocheted Dobby

Here's another commission from a cast member, for their secret friend, who is a huge Harry Potter fan.
They requested Dobby! I found some pics online and free-styled this guy:
I didn't have green glass eyes, so I made do with yarn and black safety eyes. Dobby is such a sweetie.
Dobby was a gift for Elyse, my dressing room buddy. It was so wonderful to sit beside her all summer, that I made her another treat: a crocheted Hermione. I was putting the finishing touches on her right up to the bitter end, so I didn't manage to take proper pictures of her. But here she is, among all of Elyse's goods.

Crocheted Tracy

How could I refuse Erin, when she asked for a crocheted Tracy?? She is a dear friend and was the STAR of the show, so I was happy to immortalize her in yarn form. Here's the starting pic:
And here's Tracy!
I love how her hair flip turned out. I mixed two strands of yarn to try to get a patterned look for her dress.
Erin also traded me a bottle of wine. That's an interesting business model: dolls for booze!

Crocheted Velma

After the Seaweed I made, next up was Lori, who played Velma in Hairspray. Here is the starting photo I used:
And here's my crocheted version of Velma.
Her hair gave me a bit of trouble, but I'm happy with how it turned out.
Lori gave me a bottle of wine in return. That's a fair trade, I'd say!!

Crocheted Seaweed

Now that Hairspray has closed, I have a bit of free time before the back to school madness begins. A few people asked me to make up some yarn people, especially after seeing the Avengers set I made for Dustin. I was also commissioned to make a crocheted Seaweed. Here's the picture I used to copy his outfit:
And here's what I came up with:
I like how the pattern of his shirt turned out!
And here is David with his mini-me!

Pics from Hairspray

And just like that, Hairspray has closed! We had a crazy windstorm here on Saturday, lost power, had trees fall down, and it was all looking fairly touch and go right to the end. But the winds calmed down, Stanley Park reopened, and we got the green light for our final performance. We had a great audience and it stopped raining for the entire length of the show. What luck!

Here's some final pics: Leopard print, rrawwrr!
Me and my Dynamite girls:
Us again, in our blue pajamas!
And the whole cast and crew. What a team.
Nicol took some b&w shots of the cast, here's mine. I LOVE this wig, our costume designer let me have it after the run. Wheeee!
Thanks for a great summer, TUTS! (More this week on all the crocheting and crafts I did for my fellow cast mates...)

Crocheted Madeline

I made a little Madeline! This is the picture I used as reference.

And here's what I came up with:
This is a gift for Nicol, by way of her Hairspray Secret Friend. A few people saw the Avengers set I made for Dustin and ordered a couple of characters for their friends.
I thought about flat ironing her hair, so it didn't stick out so much. But then thought, what the heck, it gives her character!
I like her little yellow hat, it makes me smile.
Hope she makes you smile too!

Note from Scotia

The other show playing at TUTS this year is Oliver. We alternate nights, so I share a spot in the dressing room with Scotia. I've never met her before, but I know she's one of the kids in Fagan's gang of pickpocket orphans. I left her one of my colouring pages the other night, and she drew me a picture in return. So sweet!

Avengers week: Crocheted Avengers Set

Here's the whole gang, together at last!
Don't they look bad-ass, like they could save the world??
Well, maybe not from my couch. I'm so happy with how they turned out. And Dustin is happy too!

I got his fiancee to hide a couple of them in their apartment, so he would find them. Tee hee - sneaky Avengers!
And here is a post taken from Dustin's Instagram account. He loves them, yay!
