Apple Home

I continue to make progress on this project for my friend. She also wanted a little apple home, that housed a little caterpillar. She sent me a picture and I came up with this. It looks more like a bee than a caterpillar but oh well!
Here he/she is, all tucked into bed. I love the flower pillow and blanket. All snug inside their apple home.

Thanksgiving 2016

This year we hosted Thanksgiving! It was a little tight in our new apartment, and we were missing the Clarks and my brother and sis-in-law, but we fit.
I made my world famous apple crumble.
And we had a lot more dessert. And other food too - turkey AND ham!
And we took selfies. Happy thanksgiving, all!

Apple hat

I had some happy red yarn that reminded me of apples, so I decided to make an apple hat.
This is for a friend of mine who has a 6-month old boy. I free-styled the stem based on these pictures. Good thing I take pictures of my stuff, since I NEVER write down what I do to make them!

More Apple Crumble

Our little apple tree in the backyard has yielded some fruit this year, but not as much as last year.   I think because we had such a hot spring and summer. I still got a lot of fruit from it, so I whipped this up again.
The house smells amazing while it's baking - all apple and cinnamon goodness!
And it was as yummy as ever.
I saw a few pears on our pear tree - maybe I will be able to try out a pear crumble!

More apples

My little apple tree is starting to yield fruit again. It was a big hit with my family last year, so let's hope this year's harvest is equally as good, so I can make this again!

The best apple pie/crumble ever!

I have already blogged about the little apple tree in my backyard, from which I got these yummy looking apples.
Well after scouring Pinterest, I found this pin, which has the easiest recipe to the yummiest pie ever! She calls it Swedish Apple Pie, but my mom calls it crumble, because it has no bottom crust. In any case, the hardest part was chopping up the apples. But then you sprinkle them with sugar and I added a bit of cinnamon here too, so it already smelled divine.
Then you mix up the dough and pile it on top. Mine looked a lot chunkier than the picture in the original pin, but I used vegetable oil instead of butter, so maybe that's why? I'm not much of a baker so I just threw it all together and crossed my fingers.
Here it is, just out of the oven. And let me tell you, it was delicious. So good that I called my mom and she basically rushed over to try some and gave her approval too. Then two of my sisters came over to sample it too. I'll try making it again in a square dish, to see if I can recreated the magic. Yay, baking success!

Backyard apple tree

There's a lovely little apple tree in my backyard. It was rather overgrown and wild, then the gardeners cut it back a few years ago. The following year it bloomed lovely apple blossoms, but no fruit. Last year it did bear some fruit, but the apples were small and sour. This year, they are perfect. I don't know what variety they are, but they are delicious. My mom was in our backyard picking apples - she came straight from church, that's why she looks so fancy.
And here she is again, on the same day! That's how good the apples are!
My niece and sis came over to get a few that my mom overlooked. There's a little crab apple tree back there too, but we were focused on the main apple tree.
I got a bowl of apples of myself. True organic produce, just steps from my house!

Pumpkins and Apples

I have been in contact with a woman who has requested that I make these hats for a pumpkin patch. I made her one pumpkin one, and we tweaked the design a little bit. She also requested an apple one. Here's what I came up with.
Aren't they cute?? And they're fairly simple to make, I just used a basic cap pattern, and then free-handed the leaves and stem. I should write up a proper pattern of the notes I scribbled. In the meantime, enjoy a picture of these cute hats!

Apple Time

My friend at work is expecting! Every morning she goes up to the cafeteria, cuts up an apple, and brings around the slices to share with us. We call it Apple Time. I made her this amigurumi apple from Planet June's pattern here.

I also made a rattle and stuffed it in there so it makes a fun noise when her baby shakes it.
It will go into her baby shower basket before she goes on her maternity leave. I'll miss her and her apple time.
