Wooden ornament blocks

This year for Christmas I made a few of my friends ornaments out of wooden blocks. I got my friend at work to chop me up some blocks. Here they are! I love them - so many possibilities!

I painted them and used the packing tape photo transfer technique on some images.

Then I added some ribbon and jingle bells.

They turned out really well, but I wish I had time to do more of them. I have a lot of blocks left over so I can just keep going for next year!

Photo experiment with canvas

Continuing on with my photo experiments, todays blog post is about transferring to canvas. The images are transferred using masking tape! I found that this was the easiest method by far, and made the best transfer of photos. The only problem is that the images have to be small. These are teenie tiny canvasses I bought from Michaels and arranged on some ribbon.

The pictures are laser jet printouts - easy peasy and cheap too. The masking tape method really did have the best results so far, but I will have to experiment with larger pics.

Photo experiments: picture transfers on wood

I have looked at a number of different sites that explain how to transfer images on to blocks of wood. It took me a long time, but I finally managed to get one right.

Here I bought a small wooden plaque at Michael's, it cost me $1.29. First I painted the edges of the wood in black. I tried this project with a real picture as well as a printed picture. The real one didn't do much good at all but the printed one came out nicely. I put a coat of Gel Medium on to the printout (NOT on to the wood, but the actual piece of paper). Then put it face down on the block of wood, smoothed it out to get rid of bubbles, and let it dry overnight. 

I came back to the project the next morning and started rubbing the paper off. I wet it real good, and just went at 'er. I think it turned out well, but the picture I chose was a bit dark. That, combined with the dark wood frame, made for - well - a dark picture. But still, I liked the way it turned out.

I also screwed in a couple of hooks at the top and finished it off with a bow. 

I love the look of the photo transfer. Next time I will chose lighter and hope for the best. 

Photo experiments: pictures on wood

I've been pinning a number of photo projects and have tried a few out. This was just a simple one: find a block of wood, paint it, glue on pictures and stickers, seal it all with mod podge. Looks good, huh!

These were VERY easy to do and cost me hardly anything at all.
