Mmmmm granny stripes!

Bunny and Blanket set

Tonight is the TUTS fall gala! I was there last year to volunteer, and I'll be there again this year. This time my hubs is MC'ing as Corny Collins, from Hairspray. Last year I made an owl and blanket set; this year I made a bunny and blanket set.

I love the colour scheme, especially the dark purple.

I used the same patterns from the blanket in this post.

I love how the edging turned out.

And here is the bunny, made from a pattern that I found from this pin.

Look at his bunny butt!!

It will go onto one of the silent auction tables.

I hope it goes to a nice home!

Christmas with the Kings

We hopped over to the island for a couple days to visit the Kings. The hubby has his show to do, so we couldn't get over for Christmas. No matter, we went a couple days before. I took the time to drop off these loom blankets for Handmade Hugs, which I finished a few weeks ago.

And I picked up more yarn from the yarn lady!

My in-laws always have lovely touches around their house, like this single bud in an egg cup:

And this happy snowman and his nutcracker buddy:

And they served us a lovely, tasty Christmas dinner! It was a quick visit, but we're so glad we got a chance to hop over and see them. Merry Christmas!

Shades of Blue

Now that my Shades of Pink blanket is all done, I've started on a Shades of Blue blanket. I have some light blue leftover from a smaller project I did this summer. There's not a full skein so I'll hopefully use it for the border.

Shades of Pink - all done!

I finished the border on my Shades of Pink blanket! The border added a lot of length and width overall, so I was glad about that.

Here is the hubby, holding it up. I'll take some pictures of it in better lighting.

They hubby was very impressed, he loves it! I think it will end up in the "put on etsy one day" pile, so he had better not get too attached to it.

Shades of Pink - coming together

I finally finished all the square for my shades of pink blankie.

I lay out a few options for the final blanket.

I ended up with 48 squares in total.

I decided on the middle picture for the layout, and then decided to do a join as you go method. I had this pinned for a long time and finally put it to use. The instructions are great, and the videos are very detailed and very helpful. The joining row gives it a lot more length actually, which is nice. I thought I would get it done quickly but had to leave it half way through. But it should be finished soon :)

Some crochet

It's not all Zumba and work around here, I also got some more done on my shades of pink blanket. I just love the look of granny squares, they're so pleasing to me!

Grape and Lemon Owl

I made a grape and lemon owl to match my grape and lemon granny square blanket.

S/he has some green wings and eyes, to pick up the green in the blanket:

There's a little bell rattle inside, so it will hopefully make a nice set for a baby.

Progress

I'm making some progress on these loom blankets. Not quite blankets yet, more like strips made from yummy, fluffy yarn.

I don't know what the final design will be like, but it sure is cozy so far!

Some loom blankets

I decided to start working on this big bag of yarn I got from Handmade Hugs last month.

I've decided to knit long panels on the loom. This is discontinued yarn, somewhere in between 4-5 bulky. So it makes for nice, fluffy, cozy material when two strands are held together.

The panels are long enough for a lap blanket or child blanket, but not long enough for a big adult blanket.

Hmmm, mixed stripes or solid-coloured blankets? I'll have to decide how to piece them together when they're all done.

Grape and Lemon Granny

It took me FOREVER to weave in these ends, but I did it! And looking here, I have another blanket done. Here is the layout I decided on:

I love the grape outline of each square and the lemon border all around. So I'm naming in the Grape and Lemon Granny.

It's nice as a lap blanket, but would also suit a baby or toddler. I will keep it in my gift pile for now, or maybe put it up on Etsy if and when I ever get around to re-opening my store.

In any case, it feels nice to have finish a product every now and then!

Pink beginnings

I started on my shades of pink blanket. But er - not with any of the pink yarn, with grey.

This is how far I got crocheting back and forth. It takes FOREVER for me!

So I switched to granny squares. It's much more doable for me, to make a bunch of small things, then put em all together.

It's a start!

Cookies 'n' crochet

I got a couple of these gluten free cookies at the bake sale last weekend. Mmm! Cookies on my crochet blanket, a perfect combo.

New Granny Blanket

I've been uninspired with my own granny square blanket after I had this set back. I have to find the right colour to use as the border and they don't sell this brand at Michaels, where I usually buy my yarn. So I looked in the old stash closet and found some complimentary colours, and decided to start another blanket. I actually started it in December, but picked it up again this past week.

I've outlined all the squares (30 all together) with a nice grape purple. I don't think I have enough of that colour to do the border, plus I might want to outline it all in a nice bright yellow to give it some pop. I'll have a long time to think it over, while I weave in all those darned ends, yuck!

Loom Blanket - done

I managed to finish the loom blanket and delivered it to the yarn lady last weekend. Here are the blocks with a row of single crochet:

I added two more rows of double crochet:

And then it was all done!

I traded it for this bag of yarn so I could make MORE blankets!

Loom blanket

I forgot to post about the other set of yarn that I got from the yarn lady when I was in Chemainus last month. I got a double knit wool/nylon blend in four colours, six balls of each colour.

This time I decided to knit a blanket on the loom. I held two strands of yarn together, cast on 15 on my trusty straight loom, and knit until the balls were done - about 32 rows. The squares (rectangles) are nice and thick and have lovely texture.

Here's the layout that I'm thinking of. I have a variegated yarn that will compliment this palette, so I will crochet around each rectangle, and then make a thick border to beef up the size. Hopefully I'll finish it and deliver it back to Handmade Hugs this weekend!
