We did some more mermaid-ing this weekend at the Richmond Maritime Festival.
This year I could only do one of the days because of the Spelling Bee tour, so I had my pal Erin step in. A step-in mermaid!
The festival was great fun, as always.
Here is Ron, getting serenaded by Morgana the Mermaid.
And here is a fellow performer and stilt walker - so cool!

More Mermaids
This weekend was the Richmond Maritime Festival, and time for the mermaids to make a splash again.
We had great weather this year: not too hot, not too cool.
The festival was fun, as always. Lots of happy families and good things to eat.

Mermaids again
A couple of weekends ago, we did our Mermaid gig again at the Richmond Maritime Festival. We had a new girl come in and join our fishy trio. It was so much fun - it was perfect weather for the festival and there were lots of kids and families enjoying the sights, sounds and food.
And look at this - me two years ago and me now. Wow, huh!

Rise of the Mermaids
Last weekend was the Richmond Maritime Festival, and the mermaids were back in full form.
Aside from a few sprinkles on Sunday morning, the weather was just perfect. Here's Dee and Dum, hamming it up:
And here's a tall ship, that was used in the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean and in Once Upon a Time:
It was so much fun!

Cannery Mermaids
Last weekend we went to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery and learned lots of new stuff, but I had done a bit of research on the cannery before, for a gig I was doing at the Richmond Maritime Festival. I've done this gig for the past two years now, and it's great fun. The event took place in August for the past two years, and was a blend of tourism and history for the Steveston area. The Cannery played a big part in their economy, so they wanted some representation. The idea they came up with was Singing Cannery Mermaids! They've lived on land for a long time - working in the cannery, enchanting people with their songs - but long to return to the sea.
Our costume designer did an awesome job at recreating the uniforms of the cannery ladies from the 40s.
Here she is, a cannery worker:

And here we are, the Singing Cannery Mermaids! We had a LOT of comments on our cans (can't imagine why!) but despite that, the gig is so much fun to do. We have 4 or 5 songs prepared about the sea and the hard working life we live. I especially love our tails and head scarves.

Richmond Maritime Festival
Last weekend I was a singing, roving mermaid in the Richmond Maritime Festival. We did this last year and I was so pleased to be asked back. It's a great free family event, the people were so nice! Here's us on the cover of the Richmond Review:
And here's a better shot of our cans - we got TONS of comments on our cans...!
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!
