I'm doing Rent again! I did this show back in 2009, and then again in 2012, both with Fighting Chance Productions. Now we are doing it for 3 nights only, as an end of term project for two gals who are students at VFS.
They saw the 2012 version and got in touch with a bunch of the cast members. So I'll be reunited with my onstage girlfriend, Chelsea! Here she is at a photoshoot, how glamorous!
The location where we are rehearsing is China Town (see post from yesterday). It is one block from New Town bakery, which is dangerous.
This bakery has been around for ages. It's always super busy and they have lots of yummy stuff!
Like bbq pork (Asado) siopao! Oh yum yum yum! Danger, I will be popping in for treats often!

Tom Collin's hat
During our run of Rent we had secret friends. Think Kris Kringle gifts left for your secret friend here and there: candy, magazine, love notes! I had my friend Matt, who played Tom Collins in the show. For my final secret friend gift, I made him his own Tom Collins hat.
Here's my inspiration:
And here's what I came up with:
And here it is in action:
Matt loved it! I gave it to him just before our closing night performance and he wore for the show. Yay success!!

Rent closing
We're winding down on Rent, which closes this Saturday. It's been an amazing ride! This show is so special to me, I'm glad to have shared it with so many wonderful people. Our last week has been FULL, this is the sight I see when I arrive at the theatre at 7:
The pic is kind of small, but there's a nice line up of people out there. Here's a shot of our outrageously good-looking cast:
And one more of me groping my onstage girlfriend:
A few more performances left and then, it's goodbye time!

Rent buttons
Last week I got some buttons made for RENT. We did this the last time the show happened in 2009, and they were a hit. I downloaded the Rent font, thought up some sayings and laid them out on the 1.5 inch button template. I think they turned out really well!
Buttons, buttons, yay for buttons!

Thank you yarn
I did a favour for a friend and got this in return: YARN! Baby Llama yarn! So soft and scrumptious! It's Plymouth Yarn Baby Llama. I had a show that night but couldn't wait to wind it. So I took it to the theatre with me and did this throughout Act 1:
You can dye it but look at how lovely it looks au naturel! Now what to make...?

I jumped over the moon!
Do you know RENT at all? Maureen references a cow, Elsie, wandering around in Cyberland. Mike wanted a cow so, so, so badly so I made him this Elsie:
Turned out pretty cute, actually! Of course I whipped it up on the fly, and didn't scribble any notes down. Oh well, Mike is happy! Mooooo!!

Opening - for Cheryl
We opened RENT last night! It was so much fun! I thought of Cheryl throughout the night, a dear, lovely friend whom we lost to cancer last week. The theatre community is planning a memorial and celebration of her life, so I made this for the slideshow.
We love and miss Cheryl so much. She touched so many lives with her positive light. Rest in peace Cheryl, we'll never forget you. No day but today!
