Baby gift

Here is a baby gift I made for my cousin, who had a baby boy!
It's for Monica's little brother who, last time I checked, didn't have an official name yet.
But he has a nice blanket and a happy penguin to welcome him to the world :)

Monkey Blankie

Last week I told you about my new crafting tool, the skip blade. I also posted a pic of these flannel blankets that I bought, don't you just love the sock monkeys on the left?
I made a sock monkey blanket set.
Pretty cute, huh!

Bear Blankie

I got a new crafting too last week, Kay's Crochet skip blade. It's a rotary tool attachment that pokes holes into fabric so you can add a crocheted edge. It's WONDERFUL!

I went out to Fabric Land and got some flannel blankets.
Then I poked some holes into this bear blankie, and crocheted an edge on to it. Then I found this guy...
And gave him a matching bowtie. I think it will make for a nice gift for a new baby. I am obsessed with this skip blade, I love it! Now I have to get a whole new stash of flannel fabrics!

Purple Hats

My friend Cailin told me about this initiative, from the London Health Sciences Centre in Ontario. So I grabbed some purple yarn from my stash and started crafting!
I made 10 hats all together. They were so quick and easy, since they're small for newborn babies.
I tried knitting some, but knitting takes me so much longer than crocheting. I did 3 in a crochet style that look like it's knitting (up there on the right hand side).
And I did two, with double strands of yarn, on my small knitting loom (up there on the top). The article said not to put on any straps, pompoms, or other embellishments that might be choking hazards. I hope the bow and flower I put on these two hats don't cause trouble - I made sure to sew them down completely.
So there you go, 10 hats for wee newborns. I will send them off before the October 31 deadline and maybe make a few more to add to the pile.

Kim's baby shower

My cousin Kim is having a baby boy! We went to a brunch baby shower for her last weekend.
I made her a little baby set, with this blue hanging bird -
And a matching baby blanket.
We played a couple of games, including this one - name the celebrity baby.
And here are two future celebrities, Monica and Leyna. Such pretty girls.

Baby set

My dear friend Mike is an uncle again. I made him this baby set for his new niece.

I used this pattern from Daisy Cottage Designs, which is so simple and lovely. I added a fourth colour and a few more rounds.
And I made her a little polar bear, with a hot pink scarf.
And there was still more yarn left, so I made her a stripy hat. Yay, baby things for wee babes!

I made one of these cute hoodie things for a friend's baby girl. It was so quick and easy.
I love the colour! It turned out great, so I hope she likes it!

Blue baby knit

I finished this summer project that I had on my needles for a while. It's for my friend who is expecting a baby boy in November!
This is the pattern I used - but I shortened the sleeves.
I made a wee owl too!

Summer knitting

It's hot out, but I've still got wool on my brain. Here's a wee bit of summer knitting that I'm doing:
Knitting always takes me SO long, compared to crocheting. This is just a small sweater project, but it's been on my needles for at least two weeks now. Hopefully I'll post a picture of it as a finished object soon...

Baby Things

Beth gave me some yarn from her own stash. Because I need more yarn. (Yes I do!) She had two balls of this lovely baby yarn in cotton/poly blend. We have a couple of friends having babies soon, so I made her a set of baby things:
A simple roll brim hat:
A pair of little booties, using this pattern from Prisca handmade:
And a wee little hanging birdie (pattern on my pattern page):
Here they are, a set of green baby things. Pink set to follow!

Birdie set

Here's a wee set I made for a friend who is expecting her first baby in mid-march. I love the grey and yellow combo, especially since the sex will be a surprise. I used my own pattern for the birdie, find it on the pattern page.

Granny square cube

I found a project to use up some of my mis-matched granny squares - this little granny square cube! It has a little bell inside and was perfect for my friend's 4 month old daughter. I just chose 6 squares, and did a single crochet to join them in a light shade of blush pink. I made another one for my friend's baby boy, but of course I forgot to snap a pic. So this is all you get, but it's cute huh!

Tunisian Crochet: Baby bear hat

I learned how to do Tunisian Crochet! I had never even heard of it before, but it's awesome. Super fast and looks exactly like knitting. I decided to try out a small project, so I made this wee hat for my friend's preemie son.

I just cast on 32 stitches and worked it like I would a knitted hat.
The top came out a bit pointy, so I added ears to divert attention away from the pointiness!
I tell you, it looks EXACTLY knitting! It even rolls the way stockinette stitch does. Amazing!
I hope it fits her little wee baby bear.

Crochet Car Blankie

I saw this awesome blanket on Pinterest. So cute! My girlfriend is having a boy so I decided to make her a stroller blanket. I used a simple ripple pattern in Lionbrand Homespun, and free-styled a car applique design. Here's what I came up with:

I tried not to go too boyish on the colours, so the main yarn is an aquamarine/white blend. I'm happy with how it turned out and I hope it's long enough to cover baby up in the stroller!

Baby shower gifts

My cousin is having a baby and it's a girl! I got this yarn at the yarn swap I went to in January, it's a lovely wool and silk blend.

I also made her a crocheted owl. I hope the baby likes it!
