Hats for AJ

I made a couple of crocheted hats for my cousin's baby girl.

They will match her stroller blanket nicely.

Pussy Hat

I didn't get a chance to march, but it was so inspiring to see a sea of pink during the women's marches across the world a few weeks back.

My friend Dawna participate, but was sad to not have her own pussy hat. She requested a knit one, in fuchsia pink - voila!

Model: me! It was very fast to make up, using Cascade 220. I might cast on and make myself one :)

Forgotten Hat

With all the packing and moving we did last week, I found this hat, that I started during the run of Company back in January.

It was almost done too, just had about an inch of stockinette to do, and then started decreasing for the crown.

I finished it off during an episode of House Hunters on HGTV. I wish finishing knitted objects were always this easy!

Newsboy Hat

My mom loves this hat that I made her from Debbie Stoller's Stitch 'n' Bitch book. But she decided to share the love and gave it away! So I made her this one, which was a little bit longer and warmer. She has pretty much worn it every day since last March! She wore it so much that she put a hole in it. And that means… time for another hat! I made her two this time, she can pick the colour or just take both of them.

Both are in Vanna's Choice yarn. One in barley"

And one in Oatmeal.

That should keep her cozy for awhile longer. 

Red hat

I made this for another friend - an ear flap hat.

With two options: flower or bow.

Purple hats

I got another donation from my dear friend Colleen, who gave me some vintage yarn earlier this year. This time she dropped off a bag of stuffing, both polyfill and quilt batting, that I can always find uses for. She asked for a purple hat in return: something warm, to cover her ears, so that she could wear it during an upcoming trip to Toronto. She can't wear wool against her skin, so I found some purple acrylic yarn, and whipped up not one, but TWO hats for her.

I knit her this newsboy hat, that I love to make. I did one extra repeat of the cable pattern, so it's nice and pouffy in the back.

Then I crocheted her a bucket hat, that I had pinned on Pinterest a long time ago. I didn't use this pattern because I had the wrong size hook and yarn. But I love how the button looked, and the shape of the hat overall.

I hope Colleen like them and she stays warm in Toronto!

Apple hat

I had some happy red yarn that reminded me of apples, so I decided to make an apple hat.

This is for a friend of mine who has a 6-month old boy. I free-styled the stem based on these pictures. Good thing I take pictures of my stuff, since I NEVER write down what I do to make them!

Hats to go

I managed to squish the purple hats into a wee box.

They're packed and ready to go, hopefully to arrive well before the end of October deadline.

Purple Hats

My friend Cailin told me about this initiative, from the London Health Sciences Centre in Ontario. So I grabbed some purple yarn from my stash and started crafting!

I made 10 hats all together. They were so quick and easy, since they're small for newborn babies.

I tried knitting some, but knitting takes me so much longer than crocheting. I did 3 in a crochet style that look like it's knitting (up there on the right hand side).

And I did two, with double strands of yarn, on my small knitting loom (up there on the top). The article said not to put on any straps, pompoms, or other embellishments that might be choking hazards. I hope the bow and flower I put on these two hats don't cause trouble - I made sure to sew them down completely.

So there you go, 10 hats for wee newborns. I will send them off before the October 31 deadline and maybe make a few more to add to the pile.

Baby set

My dear friend Mike is an uncle again. I made him this baby set for his new niece.

I used this pattern from Daisy Cottage Designs, which is so simple and lovely. I added a fourth colour and a few more rounds.

And I made her a little polar bear, with a hot pink scarf.

And there was still more yarn left, so I made her a stripy hat. Yay, baby things for wee babes!

Another cabled Newsboy Cap

My mom loved this hat so much,

So I made her another one.

I admit, I'm a bit jealous and wanted to keep this one for myself. It's made from Vanna's Choice, so it's nice and soft. Plus I did one extra row of cabling, like the last one, so it covers your ears. The perfect length. The perfect hat!

Cabled Newsboy Cap

I made this Cabled Newsboy Cap from the book Stitch n Bitch. I have made this hat many times before, way back when I didn't have a blog. My mom still wears hers and asked for another one, so I made this for her.

I made it with one extra cable repeat, so it could cover her ears better. I used Vanna's Choice in Oatmeal, and I had just enough left to make a matching flower pin.

This is a lovely hat, it has just the right amount of slouch to it and I love the brim. 

Christmas Crafting

Merry Christmas everyone! I'm planning on eating for two days straight with my family! I got all my shopping done, and managed to get some crafting done too. My friend Ryan asked me to make some crocheted hats with beards attached. I used this excellent pattern, by Ashlee Marie. My gauge was off, a bit too big, so I ended up making a few of them. Here's the one for his nephew:

And he knew his niece would want one too, so here is hers:

And here is my hubby, modelling the one that was too big. So it's going to my brother, who had originally told me about it months ago. Pretty cute, huh!

Perfect Slouchy Hat

Ages ago I made this perfect slouchy hat from this Lion Brand pattern, but that I found through All About Ami's post here. It is fast, easy and really has the perfect amount of slouch.

Then my sis requested one in black. So I whipped one up in under an hour.

I made it longer, as Ami suggested, and you can fold the brim up.

Look at that perfect amount of slouch back there! 

Christmas hats

I dropped of the rest of my pumpkin hats to the patch this past weekend. Now I've got Christmas on the brain!

I saw this pin from Charmed by Ewe, how adorable! I made a couple in Christmas colours, but changed the stitch to single crochet, for a tighter fit.

I made one in adult size. Maybe it will go in the "to sell" pile, or maybe I will keep it for myself :)

Pumpkin Hats

I finished a bunch of pumpkin hats, just in time for the opening of the pumpkin patch.

Pumpkins and Apples

I have been in contact with a woman who has requested that I make these hats for a pumpkin patch. I made her one pumpkin one, and we tweaked the design a little bit. She also requested an apple one. Here's what I came up with.

Aren't they cute?? And they're fairly simple to make, I just used a basic cap pattern, and then free-handed the leaves and stem. I should write up a proper pattern of the notes I scribbled. In the meantime, enjoy a picture of these cute hats!

Pumpkin hat

I made up a pumpkin hat! I used a basic chemo hat pattern for the hat...

…and then free-styled the leaf, stem and curly Q. I think it turned out nicely and it really put me in a fall mood! (More on this project later.)
