Shades of pink

When I was at The Loom last month I picked up some yarn from their sale baskets outside. I was thinking of making a blanket for a girlfriend who is expecting, but she's keeping the sex of the baby a secret. I think she is having a girl, so I got some yarn in shades of pink:

I just love the palette, especially the light grey. In fact, I pulled one ball apart to start making something, but then this happened, as it often does:

No worries, I'll just pop it on to the new love of my life, my wool winder!

Seven minutes later (yes, I timed it), I had a lovely wool cake to work with. In the past, it would have taken me hours to untangle that yarn mess. This took seven minutes!

Bamboletta Studio

I came across the Bamboletta Studio this past weekend when I was in Whippletree Junction. They make make amazing, one-of-a-kind dolls!

The studio was closed, but I snuck a peak in their window. What a creative workplace!

And look at this adorable doll's coat! This plus the Loom makes Whippletree Junction one of my favourite places on the island :)

The Loom again

Boy oh boy do I love the Loom. They are just the best. A humble little store that is busting at the seams with yarn.

I love this starched, 3D crocheted star.

Boxes and boxes of yarn = heaven.

And it's just a few paces away from the Bamboletta studio, more on that tomorrow...

Back to The Loom

The last time I was on the island I went to my favourite yarn store, the Loom.

I wandered around back and there was a random bonfire going. It smelled great!

 And at the front of the store was this flyer advertising from the Handmade Hugs Society. Go read about the stuff they do, it's pretty cool! I hope I can help contribute in some way.

The Loom - my yarn haul

I went to the Loom last month, it is my absolute favourite (not-so-local) yarn store. I didn't have a lot of time to poke around because we were trying to catch a ferry (which we missed - grrr!), but I did get some goodies:

Some Freedom DK cotton in yellow and blue. I started making a hat out of the yellow ball but my gauge is off so it gets to grow up and be something else:

5 skeins of Cascade 220 in a lovely shade of red. I wanted a darker dye lot but they didn't have 5 skeins, so I choose this instead. I like it! It's hopefully going to be a cardigan soon:

And one skein of Flicker by Berroco. It has some nice glitter in it - hopefully you can see it. I have it in mind for a nice soft cowl for my mommy!

Loom Visit

Over Christmas I was on the island and I went to the Loom again. Of course I bought an insane amount of yarn, but I had gcs so it was ok, really it was! Ok the best part is that the lady who worked there had to run across the street and get coffee. So she left me alone in the store and I had at least 20 minutes to steal all the yarn and supplies that I wanted! I didn't, of course, because yarn-lovers are all honest, stand-up citizens. A little old lady came in while I was in there by myself and I helped her find the right dye lot for some Cascade 220. There you go, I earned my yarn!

Yarn store visit

Last weekend we were on the island (Vancouver Island, that is) visiting the in-laws (my in-laws, that is). We haven't been over to visit in a long time, so it was nice to chillax and visit THE LOOM! The Loom is an amazing old-school yarn shop in WhippleTree Junction, Duncan. I say "old-school" because it doesn't even have a website that I can link to, and the place is what all good yarn stores should be like.

The place is busting with yarn. BUSTING. They have lots of supplies and also many finished items to inspire shoppers. The people who work there are awesome - they help me find stuff, they never pressure me, and they always, always compliment me on the knit or crochet item I'm wearing. 
 

I took forever looking for some yarn to make the hubby a vest while my poor mother-in-law browsed for a bit, went next door to buy hand made fudge, took the dog out, then waited in the car. I finally got to the counter and the sales lady told me that all yarn was 20% off. ALL yarn was 20% off! Help me Rhonda!

 
So I went tearing through the store and blindly grabbed as many things as I could! Not really, but I did score a few things. Then I emerged from my yarn-induced coma in search of chocolate mint fudge.
