Ovations Nominations

I have posted about the Ovation Awards in the past. They are awards held for musicals in the Lower Mainland over the year. I got nominated for Best Supporting Female, for Into the Woods.
And my hubby got nominated for Best Musical Director, for Hairspray. Hairspray got a bunch of other nominations, including a special mention for the band!
The Awards will take place on Jan. 31, I'm sure it will be a fun night!

And oh, this year I am on the Ovation Jury, which means I go and see musicals all year long. Then I get to nominate and vote on what I feel are the most outstanding elements. So be prepared to hear about all the musicals I see, all year long!

Amy in town

Amy was in town last weekend!
We haven't seen her in a year.
She came to see Into the Woods.
And we went for a drink after to be goofy and catch up.

Into the Woods Closing

Into the Woods has closed! It was such a great experience, and I'll be sad to see this one go. Here are the ladies of the small dressing room: Caroline (Cinderella), Sarah (The Witch), Tristan (Jack's Mom), and moi (Baker's Wife). I had some fun times with these ladies!
I'll miss being on stage with my hubby!
Here's the dressing room - wow it looks messy ;)
And me!
Here is CK and Jack, who played our narrator/son in the show. Like father like son - same shirts!
And I'll miss our ASM Andrew, making fireworks for the Witch every night.
I will NOT miss stressing out about my lines. I had them written on cue cards that I looked at every night, up until the very end.
Thank you Mr. Sondheim.

Bakers' delight

My friend Shawna came to see the show on the weekend and got us a little gift: baking mitts, since we're playing the Baker and Baker's Wife. She also got us two chocolate bars - she knows us so well. Not picture: the Kit Kat that I ate before I snapped this picture :)

Opening Night!

We moved into the theatre and now it's time to open! Here's my second home for the next few weeks:
Good thing my hubs is in the show, or we'd never see each other.
Here's Ryan, giving us some notes after dress rehearsal.
And here we are, the day we first tried on our costumes:
And one last rehearsal shot, a regram from Ryan's instragram feed. Smoky and mysterious.
Wish us luck cuz here we go!

Into the theatre

We moved into the theatre this week, to start the tech rehearsals of Into the Woods. Our venue is the Jericho Arts Centre, which is in the woods!
Here's a shot of us during sitzprobe:
And another one of some props. Don't those platforms look cool in the distance? They're meant to be books. Getting excited!

The Witch

Look at how fierce my friend Sarah is! She's playing the witch in Into the Woods.
I have known her for many years, but the is the first time we get to work together.
Step aside, Meryl!

Life = rehearsal

There's not too much crafting going on in my world, mostly because I am SO busy with work and rehearsals for Into the Woods.

Here's the hubs, with a jumbo bag of M&Ms!
And me in rehearsal with our Assistant Director Ben.
I'm getting excited for this show!

Rehearsal

We are full into the swing of music rehearsals for Into the Woods. Man, this is challenging music.
Good ol' Sondheim, keeping us all on our toes.
Here's my hubs, learning his stuff!

Into the Woods

Tonight I start rehearsal for my next show: Into the Woods! I have worked with Ryan and Fighting Chance Productions many times; the last time I was IN one of their shows was Rent in 2012. This time, I'm playing the Baker's Wife, alongside by real-life hubby Chris, who is playing the Baker. How fun!

Here is a cut-off pic of the poster. Roan did the artwork, isn't it amazing? There we are in the middle of the pic - it looks like us and everything. She really does excellent work. I'll post a better picture of it. In the meantime, yay - I love first read throughs and the start of rehearsals!
