For Dee

Today I am remembering Dee, my dear mother in law who passed away one year ago.
It's hard to believe a year has passed, and I so miss seeing her smiling face. Here she is with my mom, the night before we got married back in 2006. I will always her like this: happy, smiling, with a nice glass of white wine in hand!
It's sad to remember her but also happy to remember the time we had with her. I hope she is resting in peace, having some wine, somewhere with my Pa.

Beach walks and Dessert

We had so much sun this weekend, compared to all the SNOW and RAIN over the last few months. It was SO nice!
We walked along the beach and took in a nice sunset. It looks like we're back to rain this week, but it's ok, Spring definitely feels like it's in the air.
After our beach walks, we hit up Sweet Revenge for some dessert. We used to go here a lot but kind of forgot about it. I'm glad we remembered!

Hello chilli

My husband made chilli in the slow cooker and it was DELISH! Especially with a little beer on the side :)

NYC-dreaming

We're going to New York! We booked our plane tickets, and leave in about a month. We'll be there for about 5 days, and will get to catch up with our friend Amy, some other pals who have since moved to NY, and of course see as many Broadway shows as we can. I love this planning and dreaming phase. We're coming for you, NYC!

Anniversary

This past weekend we celebrated our 11 year anniversary. This photo on time hop says 10 years, but that's because I posted on our 1st anniversary.
Time sure does fly. Look how cute my niece is!
This year we celebrated by being in the same room! Sometimes we are in different shows or different cities, but the hubs had an opening this weekend, which I got to attend. We were with many friends who were at our wedding, so that was fun!

Laundromat life

I hate doing laundry. My husband does the laundry. This is something I explained he would have to do, when we first started dating. I have not done laundry in about a decade. I know, pretty sweet life, huh? It's because my parents bought a laundromat when I was a teen and I had to work there after school and stuff, doing other people's laundry. Ugh! They only owned the place for about a year, and it was a very strange time. I have lots of random stories that I keep threatening to put into a book or a play or something. I do have a lot of good memories there, of course, but I still loathe doing laundry.

This week, my hubby is opening a show. So he's in tech all day and all night, and has no time to do the laundry. I decided to be NICE for once in my life, and went to the laundromat two blocks away to do three loads of laundry. We only have one machine in our building. I did all three loads in about an hour. It was traumatic. But not, actually. I went to the library to pick up two books I had on hold while the clothes were washing, and also got a burger at Dairy Queen. I switched the clothes into the dryer, and read the first few chapters of one of the books I picked up. It was all very...easy. And uneventful. Sigh, maybe I'll go back to doing laundry.

Ovations 2016

Last night we went to the Ovation Awards! Here is Caitlin, rehearsing a number from the Virgin Wars.
And here is the hubs, rehearsing a number from Closer than Ever.
We were both nominated, but did not win this year. Ah well, it was such a fun night. I sang a duet from Fame with my friend Sharon, and we did a number from Company.I officially ended my Ovation jury duties. The event is such a great way to reconnect with the theatre community, celebrate all the shows from last year, and look ahead to this year.

Another Ripple Blanket

I finished another ripple blanket, this time to donate to TUTS' fundraiser.
My husband helped design this one, by picking out the order of colours and deciding on the cream in between. He is sad to see the blanket leave our cozy couch, but it's for a good cause.
The Avengers are lounging away on it, getting ready to travel to their new home.

Vancouver Christmas Market

Last week on our one night off together, we checked out the Vancouver Christmas Market.
It was cold! But I warmed up with a cup of corn. That's right, a CUP OF CORN!
I was having trouble taking non-fuzzy pictures, clearly!
Here are our friends, the Gingerbread Men, singing their set!
And the lovely carousel, that we didn't go on, but enjoyed from afar. A chilly nut, but lots of fun!

Breaking up the band

My husband and I have gotten to play, work, and perform with some amazing musicians over the past few years, and they have also become our friends.
We even started a funk band with some of them. But alas, they are so talented, a few of them have left for new endeavours. Our pal Peter, the guitarist seated to the right of me in the pic below, is on a contact with Princess Cruise lines in the Bahamas!
And today our buddy Colin, drummer, in the light t-shirt below, leaves for Australia for a 5-month contract, also with Princess Cruise lines. That's what happens when you have talented friends, they get great job offers and leave! But we wish them well and hope they'll return ready to make more music with us.

From the Pit - a podcast

Hey look, my husband started a podcast! It's called From the Pit, and it's all about Musical Theatre. From overtures to exit music & everything in between. He invites special guests on to talk about music and theatre.

His first episode is on Overtures, find it here.
Check out his Facebook page and website.
Subscribe, listen, leave a comment, and enjoy!

No filter :)

Happy 10 years!

Today me and the hubs are celebrating 10 years of marriage! Can you believe it? I can't, time sure flies when you're having fun.

I don't think we've aged too much, have we??
We already did a bit of celebrating last week at Seasons in the Park, and will celebrate again this Monday. Tonight, however, on our actual anniversary, we are both busy perfuming in two different shows! Ha, that's us, non-stop theatre. Happy anniversary to us!

Ovations Nominations

I have posted about the Ovation Awards in the past. They are awards held for musicals in the Lower Mainland over the year. I got nominated for Best Supporting Female, for Into the Woods.
And my hubby got nominated for Best Musical Director, for Hairspray. Hairspray got a bunch of other nominations, including a special mention for the band!
The Awards will take place on Jan. 31, I'm sure it will be a fun night!

And oh, this year I am on the Ovation Jury, which means I go and see musicals all year long. Then I get to nominate and vote on what I feel are the most outstanding elements. So be prepared to hear about all the musicals I see, all year long!

Best 9 on Instagram

It's Monday, back to work! This term is a little slower than the fall term, so it wasn't too bad dragging my butt into work. And we had a light dusting of snow overnight, so everything looks so lovely outside.

I have the new year on my mind. Before 2015 ended, I used an app to check out my best 9 photos on Instagram. These are the pics in which I got the most likes. It's pretty fitting, picks of my husband, me in theatre shows, my funny family, my famous apple crumble, and - right there in the middle - me eating corn! Let's hope 2016 is this much fun!

Christmas Day

Merry Christmas! We spent Christmas day at my sister's house. There was lots of food (again), booze (again), presents, and lost of music! My hubby was on the piano playing and singing for us for almost 3 hours! Merry Christmas all!

The Wizard of Oz - Gateway Theatre

My husband's show is up and running at the Gateway Theatre in Richmond: The Wizard of Oz!
I had not one, but two lovely dates for opening night: my nephew Noah and niece Leyna.
This was me, attempting to get a proper picture of them.
We didn't do very well at getting a nice picture. Ah well, it was a great night and a great show!

Moody Ales visit

We went on an adventure this weekend! Our dear friend Sharon, whom we have know with through the theatre world for many years, gave us a donation for the dean's staff Christmas lunch that I help out with every year. Her husband Adam opened a brewery in Port Moody, called Moody Ales. They donated this lovely basket!
So we went out there on Friday night to pick up the goods, and have a tasting flight too.
Their beer is amazing, so, so good. We are two happy customs, as you can see, and we'll definitely be back!

Birthday fun at River Rock

Last Friday was my birthday! We decided to celebrate at the River Rock Hotel and Casino. We got the romance package, it was lovely!
Our fancy room.
And our treats - wine and chocolate!
We had the amazing buffet - here's a pic of my desserts!
We partied with our family and friends down in the casino - drank a bit, danced a bit, gambled a bit! Here's the hubs, looking pensively out our window the next morning.
And here's breakfast in our suite. I LOVE room service!
It was a great birthday!!
