It's nice and quiet at work these days, since there are not many students around. I took one of my puzzles to work and did a bit every day on my lunch break. I just love puzzles :)

Coffee!
My work colleague orders coffee to use in our Keureg from Granville Island Coffee. They come in big boxes with reusable green cups. All you do is compost the coffee pod after. SO quick and easy and good for the environment!

Swag
I'm part of the United Way steering committee at work, where I help plan the Arts Food Truck Festival. We had a meeting yesterday and they gave us some swag, which they told us to wear and use, to help spread the word about the campaign. So here I am in July, modelling a winter toque.

Adult recess
Today we had adult recess at work!
I helped set up a bunch of stations.
And then watched some people play and soak up some Vitamin D.
And I discovered I'm pretty good at croquet! Well, when no one is keeping score :)

Stair Challenge
I have been doing a little self-guided stair challenge at work called Pick your Peak. It encourages you to take the stairs more and count your flights of stairs, then you get entered into weekly draws for fun stuff. It really made me more conscious of taking the stairs more, even though no one was really checking on me. I started parking at the very top level of the parkade at work. It's lonely up there, sometimes.

Work activities: eat cake
It's grad time at UBC. Since I work in First Year Programs, we don't get to celebrate graduation - the students leave us after first year. So I miss grad celebrations on campus. But look, one of our instructors received a Killam Teaching Prize, so we got some cake to celebrate.

CAP CON 2017
One week ago, we held our annual student conference at work, CAP CON.
I am always so impressed by the student presenters, moderators, and volunteers.
And the multimedia showcase went very well this year, and we had lots of people coming around to look at the different projects and displays.
My day, as always, was filled with making coffee and putting out cookies.
And look, our ASTU teachers in the photo booth. Way to go CAP!

Dean's Christmas Lunch 2016
Yesterday was our annual Christmas Lunch, that I've been collecting donations for.
I got a total of 26 prizes this year, from many generous businesses and restaurants.
We did our annual trivia game, as well as a jeopardy game. It was a lot of fun!
We also raised about $450 for the United Way - look at these helpful volunteers, aren't they great?

It's such a fun time, I'm glad I can help out each year.

New Water Bottle
A couple of years ago, I got some birthday treats, including a fancy new water bottle. I used it and loved it...and then I lost it.
Well look, I got another water fan water bottle! Almost the same kind, but this one is bigger.
I sit on a committee at work and they gave us this as a thank you. And it was FILLED with chelate Lindt truffle. Um, YES PLEASE.

United Way Arts Food Truck Festival
Last week I helped organize a big event on campus, the Arts Food Truck Festival! Last Thursday, if you bought your lunch on campus from one of the food trucks, $1 went to the United Way Campaign.
The event was from 11-2, so we lined up lots of entertainment. Here's a blurry shot of the a cappella group practicing.
And look at this weather forecast - a break from the rain! We crossed our fingers and were rewarded, it didn't rain at all during the festival!
Here we are, all set up outside the UBC bookstore.
The food trucks were behind the stage, in a nice, sectioned-off U shape.
And there is the Alumni Centre, who also donated $1 from each lunch sold to our campaign.
I got my lunch from the Dragon Bowl. And there's our poster on the side of the truck.
Here's a line up of the entertainment.
And look, this is the a cappella group (one of four at UBC) called the Choral Reefs. They were so nice and let me sing one song with them! I did the solo on "If I Ain't Got You" and it was tons of fun.

What a great afternoon, and thank you weather gods, for keeping us in your favour. Hopefully we raised some money for the United Way!

Yoga!
I have joined two yoga classes at work for this semester. One is on Mondays, run through the UBC IT department. The other is on Wednesdays, and will be offered in my unit! I applied for and received a healthy workplace grant. It's one of the things I love about UBC - there are so many opportunities to engage in a healthy workplace and lifestyle. I haven't done yoga consistently in a long time - wish me luck!

Imaginus at UBC
Having just moved, I was on the lookout for some new art. Lucky me, the Imaginus poster sale was happening in the new SUB at UBC!
I have walked through the posters before but haven't bought anything from them since my SFU days, way back when.
I got these two for our kitchen and bar area. Cuz coffee and alcohol are great!
I got this for our bedroom. I like the autumn colours and it'll look nice in a wooden frame.
I got these two for my mom's condo. She wanted something from the beach for both bedrooms.

I didn't get this one. But I took a pic and sent it to my hubbie. This bird cracks me up!

Choco Yum!
Our summer students at work have finished their term for us. This summer is just flying by, isn't it? One of them gave us chocolates as a thank you. No, no, thank YOU!

UBC Waterfall
There is a little waterfall between two medical buildings at UBC.
It was a nice spot to sit and eat my lunch. A little bit of zen in the middle of a hectic work week.

Tower Beach again
Last year, on one of my lunch breaks, I went down to Tower Beach.
It was a great hike and I thought, well I'll do it all summer! Ha - I just made it that one time. So this year, I'll try again. I hiked down one day last week, and what a gorgeous day it was.
The beach was pretty deserted, even though it was quite sunny.
And the stairs back to the top were easier to tackle this time, but my calves were burning for days afterwards!

Tea for me
We had a bout of hot hot hot weather a couple weeks ago, but it's back to rain these days.
I don't mind the rain too much - I am a Vancouverite, after all. Cool afternoons make tea time a welcome time. I got this lovely set of David's Tea from my co-workers. It's all their best teas, and it's such fun opening up and seeing what I want to try next.

Comfort Treats
I have received many treats from friends and co workers - look at this! A little chocolate, gluten free cupcake. I planned to eat half and save some for my hubby but, well, see if you can guess how that went...
And I got this treat:
Banana chocolate loaf, made by my friend's 9 year old son! He's quite the baker, it was delish!

CAP CON 2016
Last Friday we had a big student event, our CAP student conference.
We had a photo book this year!
It was very well attended - look at all those enraptured students.
Here's one of our showcase presentations.
And here are some of the photo booth props!
These two girls were superstar volunteers. They manned the photo booth all day long!
And look - leftover cookies. Lots of them!!
